You set the controller when beds were still waking up in May. By July on a Gilford or Moultonborough lot, shrubs have filled in, guests compress paths, and afternoon sun hits zones that were merely warm six weeks ago. Irrigation is not set and forget on lake geometry. Belknap Landscape provides irrigation service across Lake Winnipesaukee and neighboring towns. This mid season check follows the same logic as our spring startup guide, updated for growth, heat, and real use.

Controller and schedule sanity

Open the panel in daylight. Confirm rain sensors or smart controls still respond. Sunset shifts through summer; fixed clocks from spring may run too late or too early. Note seasonal adjust percent if your system uses it. One global bump often floods shade while sun margins stay dry on the same valve.

Simple rule: change one zone at a time, wait two days, read the lawn, then move on.

Walk each zone while it runs

Mid season is when buried heads disappear behind hosta and spray hits fence boards instead of turf. Look for misting when you need throw, clogged nozzles, and heads tilted by mowers or plows. On slopes, watch for runoff on paths before soil absorbs water. Cycle soak beats one long pass on bench lots above the lake.

Overlap with turf and beds

Lawns and planting beds rarely need identical minutes. New mulch can shed water if spray only hits leaves. Coordinate head tweaks with property maintenance so trimming exposes heads without scalping recovering edges. Turf care programs assume reasonable moisture; irrigation that misses margins undermines feeding and seeding alike.

When repair beats adjustment

Sometimes rotors were never matched to the lot. Adding minutes until the low spot is wet will soak the high spot first. Rebuild zones, add heads, or fix grade through landscape construction when overlap cannot be tuned. Drainage at patio and walk landings may need drainage work separate from sprinkler tweaks.

Pair irrigation with how you host

Guest weeks increase traffic on grass that irrigation already stressed. Note arrival dates when you schedule service so technicians see realistic wear. If paths stay dark after watering runs, add outdoor lighting to the same conversation so safety and water use align.

Schedule a mid season visit

Photograph dry and wet areas, snap a photo of the controller screen, and list zones that confuse sitters. Contact us for irrigation service on lake and inland properties throughout Belknap County and the Lakes Region. Belknap Landscape has maintained and built systems here for decades. A July walkthrough costs less than reseeding the same dry band twice because heads never matched the slope.
